Roomster Scot that winning feeling!
“Versatile, imaginative and superbly constructed” That’s how the judges at the 2006 Scottish Car of the Year Awards described the Skoda Roomster as they named the ultra-practical compact MPV its Family Car of the Year 2006.Despite having been on sale for just a matter of weeks, the Roomster’s clever seating arrangement and refined driving experience had made a big impact on the judging panel who ranked it ahead of cars costing nearly three times as much.
Explaining the decision, Stephen Park, President of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers, said: “Every now and again a motor manufacturer breaks rank and offers something totally different. With an increasing number of niche markets developing, it is refreshing that new car buyers are faced with such a fabulous choice. Skoda has increasingly thrown caution to the wind in creating desirable family transporters.”
Chris Craft, Skoda UK Brand Director, said: “We’re delighted with this important award. The Roomster is a clever, practical car that genuinely brings something new to the market. We’ve already had to increase production, which shows us that buyers are just as enthusiastic!”
The Roomster is a unique family car with a variable interior and powerful design inside and out. Split into two distinctive ‘rooms’ – Driving and Living – the cabin meets the demands of all its passengers. Prices start at £9,920 and all models come equipped to the high standards that customers have come to expect from Skoda.
Whilst this award is the first for the Roomster and the first victory for Skoda in the Family Car category, the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers have proved themselves to be a discerning bunch in the past, having awarded the Diesel Car of the Year award to the Skoda Fabia vRS in 2003 and the Luxury Car award to the Skoda Superb in 2002.
