Autocar award for Skoda cake advert
Another ceremony, another award for Skoda’s famous cake car advert. This time it was the turn of leading magazine, Autocar, to shower the delicious campaign with praise and a prize. At the recent ceremony held in London by the world’s oldest car magazine, it was announced that visitors to the magazine’s website felt that the Czech firm’s ad was the best of the year. It pipped the likes of BMW and Shell to the top accolade.
Web editor, Matt Saunders, said of the campaign: “Skoda’s brilliant Fabia TV ad looked like the champion from the beginning. There were 12 adverts shortlisted - thousands voted – and yet the cake ad got a third of the nominations. It’s well deserved and seems to be universally adored.”
Mary Newcombe, head of Skoda UK marketing, was delighted with the prize. “We’re all really pleased with the recognition received by the cake advert. Winning awards is fantastic, but it’s the way the public has reacted to it that gives us the greatest pleasure.”
In the advert a team of artisans crafted a New Fabia cake out of, among other things, 10kg of white chocolate chunks, 20kg of raisins and 100kg of wheat flour. If you’d like to see how it was done visit newfabia.co.uk. The New Fabia costs from £7,990.
