Another record year for Skoda in 2007

Another record year for Skoda in 2007 Last year Skoda performed better than ever before. Skoda sold almost 40,000 cars in a 12 month period for the first time (39,907). These impressive figures saw Skoda’s UK market share remain steady at 1.7% despite some fierce competition.

A major contributor to this success was the Octavia. Nearly 18,000 were sold in the UK last year (17,619) – over 2,400 of which wore the desirable vRS badge. It was also a fantastic 12 months for the Fabia. Just over 16,000 found homes in Britain in 2007 (8,223 previous generation models and 8,169 new versions). The figure for the new 2007 Fabia is particularly impressive given that the car only went on sale on the 15th of May.

In its final year, the outgoing Fabia vRS sold almost as quickly as it accelerates. The final 1,600 went like hot (hatch) cakes. The Bohemian carmaker also sold 1,766 Superbs last year and 4,130 Roomsters.

Internationally, sales rocketed to over 630,000 units in 2007. This is an incredible achievement given that twelve years ago in 1995 Skoda sold around 208,000 cars. That means in little more than a decade worldwide sales have climbed 200%.

2008 looks set to be an even more prolific year for the Czech firm in Britain with the launch of several exciting new models. This year will see the new Fabia Estate (February 7th), the new Superb (September) and face-lifted Octavia (end of ’08) hit the market.
