Rare new arrival at new homes venture

Fewer than 3% of mums-to-be opt for a home birth so the arrival of baby Peta at Rossendale Gardens in Earl Shilton, Leicestershire, was quite a novelty.
But that’s not the only reason why she’s special. The infant is thought to be the first child to be born in a brand new Redrow home and is almost certainly the only one born while construction work was ongoing nearby.
To welcome her into the world Redrow has arranged for a mural to be painted on the nursery wall of the home she shares with mum Hayley Moore, 25, and dad Ian Morley, 31.
“We were living in an older property in Hinckley but when we found out I was pregnant decided it was time we moved to somewhere bigger. We looked online and found Rossendale Gardens in Earl Shilton and thought it looked like a nice development with big houses,” Hayley commented.
“I was 12 weeks pregnant when we looked at the house and was 20 weeks when we moved in. I had wanted a home birth from day one and although it was my first baby it went really well.”
According to the National Childbirth Trust and the Royal College of Midwives, the number of women in England opting for a home birth is falling and now stands at just 2.7%.
“I’ve always liked the idea of having a water birth. Unfortunately most hospitals are only able to accommodate one water birth at a time so having a home birth was our only way of guaranteeing the birth of my choice,” Hayley explained.
“Once Ian and I attended antenatal classes at Baby Dolly it became clear how easy a home birth could be and we decided it was definitely the right decision for us. We were able to hire a birthing pool which conveniently fitted in our lounge, enabling me to have the natural birth in the comfort of my own home!”
Hayley was in labour for 24 hours and gave birth to daughter Peta on March 20.
With a new baby to care for, buying a brand new home means the couple can concentrate on raising a family without having to find the time or money for expensive repairs and renovations that an older property may need.
“We wanted a new build home so that we didn’t have to worry about cleaning or repairs before we moved in. The house was all ready to move into and integrated kitchen appliances made things easier as we didn’t have to worry about having them installed,” Hayley explained.
“We like the fact that the house has three bedrooms and a study. You get a lot of house for your money! We would definitely recommend Redrow because of the quality of the houses.”
Hayley’s nesting instinct meant she wanted a quick move ahead of the arrival of her daughter and with part-exchange they were able to move up the property ladder without having to find a buyer for their old home.
Pauline Turnbull, sales director for Redrow Homes (Midlands), commented: “As far as I’m aware we’ve never had a baby born in one of our homes and certainly not while we’ve still been building in the area. The fact that Hayley and Ian were happy for Peta to be born at home is testament to the quality and comfort of their surroundings.”
The high specification homes at Rossendale Gardens have been so popular that just eight properties are yet to be sold. The final homes offer a choice of two and three-bedroom designs, with prices from £114,995.
Close to Earl Shilton town centre, Rossendale Gardens enjoys easy access to Leicester, Hinckley and Nuneaton.
