Recent reports state that Britain is becoming a nation of renters leaving many first-time buyers priced out of the property market. Award winning property developer Crest Nicholson is offering a helping hand at its Merchants Quay and Whitstone Hundred developments in Gloucestershire, where potential purchasers can snap up a brand new home with a deposit of just £5,425 at Merchants Quay or £6,747 at Whitstone Hundred, with the government’s new FirstBuy initiative.

FirstBuy is a new scheme designed to help struggling first-time buyers onto the property ladder in a way that they can afford. The initiative means that purchasers will own 100% of their home for just 80% of the price, as Crest Nicholson and the Homes and Communities Agency offer a loan of up to 20% of the full purchase price. The loan is equity free for the first five years, after which a fee of 1.75% is payable. Loans must be repaid when the home is sold.

Merchants Quay and Whitstone Hundred are ideal developments for first-time buyers and purchasers wanting to be close to the action of Gloucester city centre, the M5 and the glorious Gloucestershire countryside.

Merchants Quay, which is set in the historic Gloucester Docks, offers buyers a range of one and two bedroom apartments with spacious open plan living areas, with duplex apartments offering additional and contemporary mezzanine living space; with many of the properties offering stunning waterside views. A new show apartment has also recently launched giving interested purchasers a chance to visualise the lifestyle that an apartment at the development can offer.

Homebuyers looking for something slightly more rural will find all they need at Whitstone Hundred in Hardwicke. Set in an enchanting location in the Gloucestershire countryside, Whitstone Hundred offers first-time buyers a choice of 200 fantastic properties, including a range of two bedroom apartments and two, three and four bedroom homes. The development has also launched three stunning show homes for home buyers to enjoy.

Amanda Benjamin, Sales Manager for Crest Nicholson comments: “Gloucestershire seems unaffordable to many first-time buyers but with FirstBuy at Merchants Quay and Whitstone Hundred, Crest Nicholson and the government are opening the door to the property market to those who are struggling to buy their first home. Our developments are ideal for young professionals, with excellent transport links to Gloucester and the M5, in addition to offering the tranquil surroundings of the Docks or countryside giving residents the best of both worlds.”

Homes at Merchants Quay and Whitstone Hundred will be finished to the high quality associated with Crest Nicholson. Properties also come complete with the National House Building Council (NHBC) ten year warranty providing ultimate peace of mind, as well as a dedicated customer care service team for two years after the purchase. Crest Nicholson homes are perfect for a lifestyle that is low in maintenance and high in style. Homes encompass double glazing and high levels of wall and loft insulation, making Crest Nicholson homes much more energy efficient than older properties.
