Become a part of Epsom’s history, by purchasing Dame Annis House

One homeowner could soon find themselves a part of Epsom’s history by purchasing Dame Annis House, a renowned landmark in the Surrey town. But, this isn’t just any home; on the contrary, it has an extraordinary past.

The imposing Elizabethan-style property has been an important part of Epsom since the 1920s, but its origins go back much further. Originally a barn and later a farmhouse at Dame Anna’s Farm in Fyfield, Essex, the building was dismantled brick-by-brick, moved to Epsom and the materials used to build a magnificent family home.

This painstaking task was undertaken by a local builder on behalf of Dr Culmer, a horseracing fan who dreamt of moving to Epsom, but who couldn’t find a property in the area to match the charm of his 15th Century Essex farmhouse. For the best part of a century, Dame Annis House has mostly been in use as a family home, but during the Second World War, it was commandeered by the War Office to house one of their members near to London.

Back to present day and award-winning developer Millgate Homes has breathed new life into the property, which means one lucky purchaser could be the proud owner of this historic home. Spread over three floors are four bedrooms, two family bathrooms, three reception rooms, a kitchen, dining hall, study and attic room. Many of the original features still remain and the oak framed inglenook fireplace, flagstone floor and dark wood beams all add to the character of the house.

Within the extensive former gardens of Dame Annis House, meanwhile, Millgate has created an additional three magnificent new family homes. Each has been sympathetically designed to blend seamlessly with the local architecture and once inside, Millgate’s award winning calibre comes to life, through the outstanding specification for which the house builder is renowned.

Only one of these 5 bedroom homes remains, but it’s more than just the excellent accommodation that appeals; the location of Dame Annis Place is also second to none. The town centre is within walking distance, yet this development, located off a private, gated drive, provides the utmost peace and privacy. Indeed, Epsom offers the perfect balance between town and country – its thriving centre hosts a number of boutique shops, bars and eateries while the surrounding open spaces of the Epsom Downs provide ample opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors.

Thanks to excellent links to London and some very good schools in the area, both state and independent, and for children of all ages, Epsom is a popular choice for families. Indeed, it’s particularly attractive to those looking to move out of Kingston, Wimbledon and the London suburbs in search of a new lifestyle. Commuters, meanwhile, will enjoy great links to London by both road and rail – Epsom station has regular services to London Waterloo in as little as 36 minutes*.
