The average family home will witness 2,000 arguments, 928 sex sessions and suffer 233 slammed doors before its occupants move out, it has emerged.

It will also be the scene of 4,880 kisses, 14,016 TV programs, 957 spilt drinks and 274 DIY jobs.

The figures were calculated based on the average of eight years a family owns a house.

The home will also witness the birth of one child, the purchase of three pets, two cars and play host to 1,144 visitors.

Over the years, 14 rooms will be redecorated with 10 new carpets, 12 sets of curtains and 17 pieces of new furniture.

Nikki Sellers, Head of home insurance at esure, which conducted the study of 3,000 Brits, said: ''Our homes are the focal point of our lives and every home will have its own story to tell, whether it's good or bad.

''It's heart-warming to think that it's the place where babies are brought home, marriage proposals are made and parties are held, but equally, it sees arguments, doors slammed, food burnt and drinks spilt.

''In a typical eight year period, the average house in Britain could tell many stories.''

The study revealed that families will get together for 2,238 meals, 147 dinner parties and 57 barbeques during the summer months.

Passionate couples will even have sex 928 times and cuddle up to watch 181 romantic movies.

But it's not always calm as there will be 2,163 general arguments between family members and siblings, as well as 849 fights over what programs to watch on television.

And doors will be slammed 233 times over the eight-year period while troublesome children will be told to sit on the naughty step at least twice a week - 872 times in total.

Thirteen valuable items will be broken, 116 plates smashed and 957 spilt drinks while floors and furniture will be wiped clean of food 1,710 times.

Hardworking owners will also tend to the garden 382 times, replace 146 light bulbs and carry out 274 DIY jobs and household repairs.

The vacuum will come out 1,464 times while the washing machine will have to cope with 2,217 loads of laundry.

Researching also found that 125 dinners will be burnt while residents will be locked out 10 times and suffer from 357 sleepless nights.

Nikki Sellers further added: "With the staggering number of food nightmares and drink spillages the average home has to endure over its lifetime and the sheer volume of visitors, it's crucial for homeowners to have accidental damage cover in case a disaster strikes."
