Family Mosaic opens access to disabled homebuyers

Access to a quality home adapted to suit those with disabilities is often hard to find in London, especially one that is affordable. That’s why Family Mosaic is providing a range of fully accessible properties at several developments in London, which can be easily adapted to meet the buyer’s specific requirements.
Lauren Nicholson of Family Mosaic says: “Family Mosaic prides itself on giving people a helping hand onto the property ladder and this does not exclude those with disabilities. Providing new, affordable properties that can be adapted to suit the buyer’s requirements is essential to ensure that we really are offering something for everyone and that no one is excluded from home-ownership.”
Available to those with disabilities or to carers of those who are disabled, Family Mosaic has a wide range of properties available. At Alana Heights, North Chingford, two apartments have been specifically designed to accommodate wheelchair users. The apartments – a one-bedroom and a two-bedroom – come with a fully adaptable kitchen and bathroom and an allocated parking space. They include high-level electric sockets, extra-wide doorways and all the features that are required to comply fully with disabled access.
The new development is located in the delightful residential area of Kings Head Hill, and has been carefully sited on the route of three wheelchair-accessible bus routes, 313, 379 and 385, which run to local shops, amenities and transport links in Chingford’s Station Road.
Next year sees the launch of two exciting new developments that include disabled-access apartments. Greenbanks in Algernon Road, Lewisham, will offer two accessible two-bedroom apartments when it is unveiled in May 2012.
Greenbanks occupies a unique site surrounded by mature trees and areas of woodland, creating a private and verdant enclave in this vibrant part of London. It is less than half a mile from Lewisham station, where the fully-accessible Docklands Light Railway provides swift services into the capital, and is close to an enticing range of shopping facilities and the wide open spaces of Greenwich Park and Blackheath.
Also launching in Spring 2012 is a collection of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments in Harper Road, Southwark, where several units will be wheelchair-accessible and adaptable to individual needs. The development will create a brand new urban square in this trendy neighbourhood, boasting colourful contemporary architecture and delightful landscaping. Most apartments will occupy the entire depth of the buildings, providing dual-aspect views; ground-floor properties will have terraces and careful planting to provide a private outside area.
The location is a short distance from both Borough and Elephant & Castle tube stations; Elephant & Castle also offers railway and bus stations and a major shopping centre. Borough and Elephant & Castle have been the focus of lavish regeneration schemes in recent years, making this one of London’s most vibrant areas. Nearby Borough High Street is truly cosmopolitan mixture of excellent restaurants, shops and pubs, including the famous George Inn, London’s last galleried coaching inn.
All the disabled-access properties at Alana Heights, Greenbanks and Harper Road are, or will be, available through Family Mosaic’s shared ownership scheme, where purchasers buy the share of a property that they can afford and pay a subsidised rent on the remaining share.
You start by buying as little as 35% and you can increase your share by 10% at any time, all the way to 100%. That means purchasers can buy a property at Alana Heights from as little as £58,625 for a 35% share in a one-bedroom apartment based on a full market value of £167,500. Prices of apartments at Greenbanks and Harper Road have yet to be confirmed.
Buyers must be living or working in the local area and earning less than £60,000 a year, but at least £26,344 as a single income or £29,186 as a joint income.
