Newlyweds Adam and Jenny Tyrrell found their ideal home at Taylor Wimpey’s Dovedale Park development of houses for sale in Swadlincote, Derbyshire – and their mortgage repayments cost less than their monthly rent.

Adam and Jenny Tyrrell never dreamed they’d be able to afford to buy their own home until they discovered Taylor Wimpey’s Dovedale Park development of new build homes in Swadlincote, Derbyshire.

Assuming that property ownership would be out of their reach, the couple hardly gave the prospect a second thought – but a snap decision to call in and see Taylor Wimpey’s new homes in Swadlincote changed both of their lives in an instant.

During their visit to the development of new homes for sale in Swadlincote, they found out all about the help Taylor Wimpey provides to first-time buyers, which meant they only required a 5% deposit to step on the property ladder.

Not only did this put a brand new three-bedroom property for sale in Swadlincote within their budget, but the initiative also enabled them to secure a great-value mortgage that costs them £100 less each month than they were previously paying in rent.

“When they told us our mortgage repayments were going to cheaper than our monthly rent, we couldn’t believe it,” says Jenny (25), who capped a whirlwind couple of months when she and Adam were married at the beginning of July, shortly after they moved into their new home.

“When you’re living in rented accommodation, you’re just throwing money away – so it’s fantastic to know that the money we’re now paying out each month is an investment in our own future. But we never expected we’d be saving money at the same time!

“We weren’t even looking to buy our own home when we had a look around the showhomes at Dovedale Park because we thought we couldn’t afford it, but Taylor Wimpey changed everything for us.”

Special needs support worker Jenny and her new husband, a 23-year-old teacher, reserved their three-bedroom ‘Barwell’ terraced house at the beginning of February.

And a particularly hectic time seemed to be ahead when they were given a projected completion date of May, giving them only a narrow window in which to make their move and prepare for their forthcoming marriage. But Taylor Wimpey pulled out all the stops to ensure their property was ready for them a month earlier than scheduled – giving them a full eight weeks to get settled before their big day arrived.

After returning from their romantic honeymoon in Egypt, Jenny and Adam are enjoying transforming their new house into a comfortable home – something they were never able to do in their previous place.

“It’s just perfect,” Jenny adds. “It’s only now that we’ve settled in and unpacked all of our things that we’ve got a true sense of just how spacious our new home is.

“It’s also great knowing that we can do whatever we want to make it our own, because even though we were allowed to decorate when we were renting, we had to put everything back the way it was before we moved out.”

Selected properties are available at the development with the popular FirstBuy scheme, which lets qualifying first-time buyers secure their new home with only a 5% deposit and a 75% mortgage, subject to status.

Taylor Wimpey and the Homes and Communities Agency provides a joint 20% which is repayable at the end of the 25-year mortgage term or when the property is sold. To be eligible for FirstBuy, purchasers must be first-time buyers with a household income below £60,000.

Selected properties are available with easystart shared equity, which sees Taylor Wimpey provide qualifying first-time buyers with an equity loan covering 15% of its price. The loan is repayable by the customer in up to three instalments over a 10-year period, at the market value of their property when the payments are made.

Dovedale Park is located in Woodville, a bustling village with a convenient range of local shops, a post office, schools and a selection of restaurants. The village will benefit from new bus services and cycleway routes, while a new link road to the south will serve the development along with traffic-free pedestrian networks.

Swadlincote town centre is just under two miles away and the town boasts a wealth of shops, restaurants, bars, parks and leisure facilities including Swadlincote Ski and Snowboard Centre and Sharpe's Pottery Centre, a visitor attraction based on the town's pottery heritage.

Swadlincote is within easy reach of schools for children of all ages, while commuters will appreciate that the M42, M6 and M1 are close by and direct rail services operate from Burton upon Trent railway station to Birmingham and Nottingham.

Great family days out within easy reach include Conkers Discovery Centre, less than two miles from the development, while the beautiful National Trust Calke Abbey and its National Nature Reserve are only six miles away. Further afield, the delights of the Peak District are within 30 miles.
