Homebuyers relocate to ideal King’s Lynn property

Matthew Gower and Terri Saint left the South East of England behind to choose their perfect place at Taylor Wimpey’s Kings Reach development of new homes for sale in King’s Lynn, Norfolk.

When first-time buyers Matthew Gower and Terri Saint found themselves priced out of the Home Counties property market, they made a life-changing decision to relocate to a new property in Norfolk with the help of Taylor Wimpey.

Despite the seemingly drastic decision to move 75 miles away from friends and family to a place with which they had little connection, the couple haven’t looked back since settling into life at the leading housebuilder’s King’s Reach development of new build homes in Kings Lynn.

“I covered the Norfolk region in a former job, and we’d been camping there a couple of times, but that was about it,” says Matthew, who had previously been living with Terri in rented accommodation in Ware, Hertfordshire, before discovering Taylor Wimpey’s houses for sale in King’s Lynn.

“We loved the area, but had no real intention of moving here, even though we knew we couldn’t afford to buy in Ware, where £200,000 might get you a small apartment and little else.

“I then remembered seeing the Kings Reach development and mentioned it to Terri, and we thought we’d pop in the next time we were up, and see what was on offer there – but still with no real serious plans of relocating.

“That all changed, though, when we saw how much we could get for our money at Kings Reach. We were impressed by the showhome, then the Sales Executive Margaret took us to see a three-bedroom ‘Conway’, which was being built, and we fell in love with it.

“It has the wonderful, traditional Norfolk carstone fascia stonework, and looks just like a traditional cottage – we just had to have it!

“For a great-value price we have our own three-bedroom house, with a private garden, an en-suite master bedroom, a really good-sized living room, and a fabulous kitchen/dining room which has plenty of room for a table which can comfortably seat six people.”

While the ‘Conway’ is just perfect for Matthew (35) and Terri (27), they’ve also been thrilled with how well they’ve settled into Norfolk life since relocating in December 2010.

Both quickly found jobs in King’s Lynn, Matthew as a Customer Representative for Nationwide Building Society, and Terri as a Nurse at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, which is just a mile from Kings Reach.

“It’s a completely different way of life up here,” enthuses Matthew.

“We’ve found it’s noticeably friendlier – there’s no such thing as popping out for 10 minutes to get some bread and milk, as invariably you’ll end up having a chat with one of the neighbours or someone in a shop. People take the time to say hello here, and that’s just the sort of place we want to be.

“We love the countryside, and after work we can just pop up the road to the beaches at Snettisham or Heacham to walk Jade, our cocker spaniel.

“While King’s Lynn has everything you need for everyday life, we’re only a 40-minute drive to Peterborough, under an hour from Norwich – a city we love – and an hour from Cambridge. So the location’s just perfect.”

First-time buyers like Matthew and Terri can get help to step on the property ladder with the Government-backed FirstBuy scheme at Kings Reach.

This fantastic initiative in association with the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) lets qualifying purchasers secure their new home with a mortgage of just 75% of the full purchase price – plus a deposit as low as 5%, subject to status – and is available now with selected homes at the development.

Further details on FirstBuy and other homebuying incentives at Kings Reach can be obtained from the Sales Executive.

Purchasers at Kings Reach can currently choose from one and two-bedroom apartments, priced from just £89,995 and £92,995 respectively, two-bedroom houses from only £121,995, while a choice of three-bedroom homes starts from as little as £124,995.

Situated on the outskirts of King’s Lynn and close to a stunning Fenland landscape, Kings Reach offers homebuyers a tranquil location that is only minutes from a choice of shops, pubs, leisure facilities and places to eat.

For commuters, the A10 and A47 are both within a few minutes’ drive, while the cities of Peterborough and Norwich, as well as the beautiful north Norfolk coast, can all be easily reached by road.
