The prospect of buying your own home can be a daunting and stressful experience for many first time buyers; however, this wasn’t the case for school teacher Nicola Welham.

29 year old Nicola had always wanted to move out of her rented flat in Bourne End and buy her own place, but the prospect of saving for a large deposit seemed impossible. Nevertheless, thanks to Taylor Wimpey’s first time buyer schemes, her dream became a reality.

“I had always wanted to move to a quite village that was close to work and near my family and friends and Old Kiln Lakes ticked all those boxes.” explains Nicola. “The development is surrounded by beautiful countryside and this, along with its superb location was a real selling point for me.

“They had a great selection of apartments to choose from and I absolutely love mine. The kitchen is fully equipped with good quality fixtures and fittings and I have a large living and dining room plus lots of extra storage in the hall.

“There was no way I would have been able to afford my apartment if it wasn’t for Taylor Wimpey’s ‘Easy Start’ scheme. The scheme meant that I was able to afford the deposit on my apartment, and have the spare cash to pay for all solicitors fees and even some new furniture.

“As this was my first move, I was a little nervous, but the sales advisor on site took me through the whole process and even recommended some excellent solicitors and financial advisors for me to use. My whole move was so straight forward and I was in my apartment within two months. I was so pleased with the moving experience and the location of Old Kiln Lakes that I’ve even persuaded my sister and her boyfriend to move onto the development too!”

Old Kiln Lakes is a collection of one bedroom apartments and two, three and five bedroom homes starting from just £170,000. A variety of initiatives to help first time buyers are available at the development including the popular First Buy scheme.

FirstBuy works through a joint loan of 20% from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and Taylor Wimpey, which means that eligible purchasers only need put down a 5% deposit and obtain a 75% loan-to-value mortgage. The loan is repayable at the end of the 25 year mortgage term or when the property is sold. To be eligible, purchasers must be first time buyers and the total household earning should be less than £60,000.

The village of Chinnor has a good range of local shops and takeaways. It also has a library, social/sports hall, playing fields, children’s play area, GP and dental practices and a much loved and extremely well supported Community Centre.

For more extensive shops and amenities, High Wycombe and Aylesbury are both approximately 8 miles away and it’s just 13 miles into Oxford, all of which are easily accessible as the area benefits from excellent transport links.
