Having a ‘fright-tastic’ time!!

Hallowe’en has become one of the most celebrated occasions in the year currently eclipsed only by Easter and Christmas. And, with spending in the UK set to top last year’s pinnacle of £280 million, it is spookily clear that as a nation we have gone completely batty over the one day festival!

According to a YouGov poll (2010) 15 percent of Brits will ‘dress up’ for the occasion and two in five stock up on sweet treats to dish out to those asking ‘trick or treat’ at front doors.

“We have seen a noticeable increase in people hosting Hallowe’en house parties. Streets come alive with giant spiders in webs and the ghostly glow of carved pumpkins,” commented Steve McElroy sales director Miller Homes Yorkshire. “Having a great Hallowe’en doesn’t have to scare you silly on a financial level so we’ve put together some top tips to make sure your home looks the part and your celebrations are creepily cost effective!”

Hosting a Hallowe’en party is also a great opportunity to get to know your new neighbours. Here are some top tips to make your Hallowe’en party preparations scarily easy!

Hallowe’en etiquette – by putting a carved pumpkin in your window or on your doorstep it gives permission to those ghostly callers, looking for a treat, to visit.

Carve plenty of pumpkins with different ‘faces’, and add in a few tee-lights. They add a wonderful atmosphere to your home.

Get the children involved by making spiders, bats, ghost and other spooky shapes out of cardboard and lots of paint!

Make your costumes... it’s amazing what you can achieve with a white sheet and some poster paints!

Ask guests to all contribute to supper – perhaps they could bring a frighteningly delicious dessert or sweet treats for the children.

“Hallowe’en is about having lots of fun with friends and family,” said Steve. “By following our tips you can have a frighteningly fantastic time and let the little, or not so little, ones enjoy tales of witches, ghosts and ghouls, whilst in the comfort of your warm and cosy home.”

Miller Homes currently has developments throughout the region including Leeds City Centre, East Ardsley, Dewsbury, Bradford, Pontefract, Wakefield, Ollerton, Huddersfield, Gainsborough, Sutton-in-Ashfield and Gringle-on-the-Hill.
