Home becomes homework at Ellesmere Port

When new residents Gemma Cash and Steve Underhill moved into their brand new home at Taylor Wimpey North West’s Great Hall Park development this summer, they had watched every detail of the build from foundations to roof – and so had Gemma’s nursery school children.
Gemma, 24, works as a room supervisor for Treetops Oakland day nursery in Neston and looks after two and three year olds. When she and her partner Steve, 27, purchased their three bedroom Hemsworth off plan last November, she started taking photographs of the progress on site to show the children what was happening.
Gemma said: “Every Monday we have group time where we share our news and talk about what we’ve done at the weekend. I started showing the little ones a picture of the house taking shape every week and explained to them how we’d chosen our kitchen and the tiles and they loved it. I’ve actually won an award called the “10 out of 10 Childcare Golden Ticket” for the project at work and we’re now thinking about taking the children onto site to see the building work for themselves, which would be a perfect end to the project.”
But it wasn’t just the educational opportunity which attracted Gemma and Steve to buy at Great Hall Park. Gemma said: “Taylor Wimpey drew up such a great financial package which meant we could afford more home for our money. We initially looked at the second hand market and saw we would be required to pay a £28,000 deposit for a £112,000 house, which just wasn’t realistic for us as young first time buyers.
“We used Taylor Wimpey’s shared equity scheme where we put down a 5% deposit and have a mortgage on 80% of the property. Taylor Wimpey has made the remaining 15% an interest free loan which we then pay off over ten years. It’s brilliant because we now own a brand new three bedroom home. We’ve turned one bedroom into a games room and the other spare room has become my dressing room. But we know this house will grow with us when we decide we want a family.”
As the couple bought off plan they were able to have an input into the interior finish of their home as they went along.
Gemma said: “We’d have meetings with the Taylor Wimpey team where we’d discuss the different fixtures and fittings available to us, all of which were displayed in the showroom on site. Not only did this mean we had a choice in how our finished home would look, the team were so accommodating, meeting our timescales and requirements where possible. We’re really delighted. It’s the house we’ve always dreamed of.”
Julie Harper, regional sales manager for Taylor Wimpey North West, added: “It’s fantastic that we’ve been able to help another set of first time buyers make the step onto the property ladder. Like Gemma and Steve discovered, buying a home on the open market can require a large deposit which is why it’s always worth considering buying a new one instead. Not only can we offer guidance and advice, our financial schemes are designed to overcome the hurdles facing today’s first time buyers – making the home buying dream a reality.”
