Newlyweds Daley and Naomi Brooker were given a leg-up onto the property ladder by Taylor Wimpey at the leading housebuilder’s Scholars Court development of apartments for sale in Anerley, South London.

For many couples, getting married and buying a home together in the same year is an impossible dream – as the cost of a wedding, honeymoon and huge deposit on a property can far outstrip their hard-earned savings.

But it’s been a reality for newlyweds Daley and Naomi Brooker, thanks to the specialist help for first-time buyers Taylor Wimpey offers at its stunning Scholars Court development of South London apartments for sale.

The couple, who married in September, are looking forward to moving into their stylish two-bedroom property in Anerley at the development very soon.

“A big part of what attracted us to Taylor Wimpey was the incentive they offered to help us afford our first home,” explains Daley (28), who has been living with his parents in Mitcham ahead of his impending move to his first South London property.

“Buying a property and getting married in the same year is quite a big financial outlay. We might have been able to afford to buy without Taylor Wimpey’s help, but it would have been a stretch and we probably wouldn’t have been able to get married this year and go away and have the flexibility to do other things like buy furniture. The incentive we used has given us more freedom.”

The couple also enjoyed the benefits of reserving their new apartment off-plan, which meant they could choose from Taylor Wimpey’s range of interior Options to ensure their home is completed to their personal specifications.

“Taylor Wimpey gave us a voucher which allowed us to get flooring, a washing machine and dishwasher and we chose a few other nice things,” says Daley. “We’ve been able to have the place fitted out before we move in so we can look forward to settling in straight away when the apartment is finished.”

Daley and Naomi chose a spacious two-bedroom apartment design at Scholars Court, having been attracted by its extra bedroom, its contemporary kitchen separate from the spacious living area and its handy underground parking space.

The convenient location of Scholars Court is perfect for the Brookers, who like the fact it’s close enough to their families – but not so close that they are round the corner! – while the great transport links mean they will both enjoy a convenient daily commute.

Daley works in Victoria as an engineer for Transport for London and can take the train from Crystal Palace station into work, while Naomi will be able to catch a bus at the end of the road to get to work.

“Crystal Palace stadium with its sports facilities and parks has lots of things to do and is really close to the development, while Crystal Palace High Street has nice restaurants,” Daley adds.

A choice of stylish one-bedroom apartments is currently on sale at Scholars Court from as little as £158,500.

Selected plots can be purchased by qualifying first-time buyers for 80% of their full purchase price – including just a 5% deposit, subject to status – under the Government-backed FirstBuy scheme.

Taylor Wimpey and the Homes and Communities Agency provides a 20% joint loan which is repayable at the end of the 25-year mortgage term or when the property is sold. To qualify for FirstBuy, purchasers must have a household income below £60,000 and should not have an existing mortgage. Full details of the scheme are available from the Sales Executive.

Located in a quiet, leafy residential area of Anerley, Scholar’s Court provides the perfect urban hideaway for professionals looking to escape the hustle and bustle of central London, yet enjoys a rich variety of amenities close at hand.

A choice of shops, bars, leisure facilities and a vibrant local street market are all within easy reach of the development, while Beckenham, just over a mile away, boasts plentiful quality restaurants and night spots. Meanwhile, The Glades shopping centre in Bromley and The Whitgift Centre in Croydon are each less than four miles from home.

For commuters, Scholars Court offers excellent links to the heart of the capital, with the extension to the East London tube line linking Anerley to Canada Water and the main underground network. Both Crystal Palace and Anerley railway stations are each within walking distance of the development.

There is also easy access to the A212, A214 and A215, while for those travelling further afield, Heathrow and Gatwick airports are each just over 20 miles away.

The ever popular Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, which has recently benefited from £20 million investment, is close to home, offering a fantastic range of sporting opportunities, including one of London’s premier 50m swimming pools.
