Myth-busting housebuilder Taylor Wimpey is aiming to dispel popular misconceptions about the mortgage market – and reassure first-time buyers that they can afford to step onto the property ladder at one of its high-quality developments of new homes for sale in Nottinghamshire.

First-time buyers keen to get a foot on the property ladder are being invited to a free and informative event on Saturday 28th January at Taylor Wimpey’s Lime Tree Gardens development of homes for sale in Mapperley, Nottinghamshire.

Organised jointly by the leading housebuilder and Independent Financial Advisors Meridian Mortgages, the Mortgage Myths Forum aims to dispel some of the myths surrounding the difficulty of getting on the property ladder – while providing access to free expert advice for those seeking new-build homes in Nottinghamshire.

A recent report produced by the National Centre for Social Research on behalf of Halifax highlighted some of the misconceptions young people hold about buying their first home.

Despite 79% believing that property is still a good investment for the future, 92% of respondents said they thought it was hard for first time buyers to get a mortgage – however 9 out of 10 mortgage applications made through Taylor Wimpey’s IFAs are in fact accepted.

The research also revealed that 84% of people believe banks do not want to lend to them and 55% are scared of being turned down, but just 9% of people who believe they have little chance of buying a home have sought professional advice.

Carolyne Watkinson, Regional Sales Manager for Taylor Wimpey, says: “An Independent Financial Advisor is uniquely positioned to guide first-time buyers seeking homes for sale in Nottingham through the mortgage process. They can use their expert knowledge to ensure that all the information required is gathered and checked before an application is made and that the right mortgage product is selected dependent on the applicant’s individual circumstances.”

The Mortgage Myths Forum has been designed to take the mystery out of buying a first home and will provide all the information, advice and expert tips needed for young people to make an informed decision about getting on the property ladder.

And as an added incentive, anyone reserving a property at the Lime Tree Gardens or Chaworth Gardens developments of homes for sale in Ravenshead, the Brackens Court development of new houses in Bestwood Village or the Rufford Grange development of Rainworth property on the day of the event will receive free carpets when they complete their purchase.

Carolyne continues: “First-time buyers are understandably cautious about taking the big step of getting on the property ladder.

“However, there appear to be levels of fear and pessimism – particularly when it comes to getting a mortgage – which are not representative of the true state of the first-time buyer market.

“By educating buyers and offering free, impartial advice, we aim to demonstrate that owning a property at Lime Tree Gardens, Chaworth Gardens, Brackens Court or Rufford Grange is achievable and makes a sound, long-term investment.”

The Mortgage Myths Forum is part of an ongoing commitment by Taylor Wimpey to those purchasing their first home. The company has also linked up with TV property expert Phil Spencer to produce a series of video guides to help those thinking of getting on the property ladder, which are available to view now at taylorwimpey.co.uk/philspencer.
