Tick, tock, goes the stamp duty clock

Any first-time buyers, in Leicester, looking to purchase a home, should make it a priority to visit Jelson Homes’ Hallam Fields development, as it is their last chance to take advantage of the government’s stamp duty holiday.
This temporary two-year scheme to encourage people onto the property ladder began in March 2009 and means that those buying their first home before 25 March this year are exempt from the one-per-cent stamp duty charge, as long as their new property costs less than £250,000. So, by acting fast, first-time buyers might save as much as £2,500 – money which could be spent on furnishing the new home.
Last year, financial commentators had speculated that this stamp duty holiday might be extended again, but, in his autumn statement, the Chancellor of the Exchequer made no mention of an extension – and so the March deadline stands.
Jackie Woodward, sales manager at Jelson Homes, comments: “The stamp duty holiday has been a useful lifeline for many first-time buyers. One per cent of the total purchase price of a home may not seem like that much money, but, in fact, runs into thousands, so for many it has helped to ease the burden of buying.
“As it is ending next month, I’m sure that many first-time buyers will be looking to take advantage of the scheme. At Birstall we currently have a range of three-bedroom homes which would be ideal. The Hawfinch, priced at £159,950 is a prime example.
“I would encourage those looking to take a step on the property ladder to visit us now, as there is also no reason why, with our help, they shouldn’t achieve a completion date by 23 March.”
Hallam Fields is located in a peaceful area of Birstall village, but within close proximity to all the area has to offer. This thriving hub features a fantastic array of outlets and general amenities catering for your everyday needs. Leicester city centre, meanwhile, is just a few miles away, providing a wider selection of shopping opportunities. Commuters will find access to the nearby M1 ideal, with links to larger cities both north and south.
