5 June 2007

Wizz Air has announces it will start new flights between Poland and the UK. The new flights will connect Glasgow-Prestwick to Katowice, Wizz Air’s largest base and will be its third route to Poland out of the Scottish city. The airline already flies to Gdansk and Warsaw.

The first flight between Glasgow-Prestwick and Katowice will take off on 3 September, 2007 and will be operated 3 times a week initially. Tickets for the flights are already on sale on the airline’s website, Wizzair.com. Regular one way fares start from as low as GBP 19.99 including taxes and charges.

Natasa Kázmér, Head of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs of Wizz Air said: “We are delighted to extend our route network with another great route to Poland. Katowice is the capital of the booming region of Silesia with a lot of business opportunities as well as historical sites and beautiful nature. The travellers from Scotland will be delighted to learn that Krakow, the former royal capital of Poland is only 45 minutes drive from Katowice airport, so it makes it definitely worthwhile visiting this place.”

Mark Rodwell, Chief Executive of Glasgow Prestwick Airport, commented: “Poland has been an important market for us in recent years, with its popularity as a tourist destination growing all the time, so it’s excellent news that Wizz have announced this new low cost service.

“The inbound market has also been particularly strong, with thousands of Poles moving to Scotland to find work, and using our Polish services as a means of returning home to visit family and friends.

“The airport has put a lot of time and resources into making the Polish sector work for us and it has paid off as our existing services have had a fantastic response from the public and we hope that word of mouth will continue to spread.

“With today’s announcement we are delighted to improve our coverage of a crucial market and further develop our working relationship with Wizz Air at the same time.

“They have shown a high level of growth in a short period of time since they began operations and we hope to help them continue that growth.”
