Civic set to shake its sector

14th September 2005 Print
Honda’s brave new Civic, aimed squarely at younger, image conscious consumers, has gained a pre-launch vote of confidence with excellent ABI insurance ratings.

Though the car is moving up into the premium end of the C segment, some of its insurance ratings are moving in the opposite direction. The new 2.2 i-CTDi Sport is now cheaper to insure than the outgoing 2.0 Type S.

While the 1.4 grades get a competitive 4E, it’s the 1.8 and 2.2 units at 9E and 10E respectively, that have really exceeded expectations; each beat Honda's internal target by two classes.

"Improved crash repairability, better protection and advanced security have all contributed to this outstanding result," explains Wendy Hesketh-Dewar, Honda’s Cost of Ownership Manager. "The car exceeded all our expectations and sailed through its Thatcham tests."

Model Line Up

New Civic starts with an entry grade S level with front, side and curtain airbags, ABS, electronic brake force distribution, VSA, electric power steering, electric windows, indicator door mirrors and 16" wheels, amongst a range of impressive standard specification. SE will add Active head restraints, Brake Assist, auto air conditioning, alloy wheels, CD and a glove box cooler. The range then splits into three specifications: the ES spec delivers all the creature comforts; automatic lighting, steering wheel mounted audio and cruise control, leather steering wheel, fog lights and a panoramic glass roof. For customers wanting a more distinctive exterior look the Sport offers 17" alloys and HID self levelling lights. The EX delivers the sports set up (17" alloys) combined with all the latest driver aids such as DVD navigation, auto lights, rain sensing wipers and cruise control.
