Bloor buyer builds own home

Not many house-buyers can claim to be as hands-on as Joanna Chard: the 25 year-old buyer of a property at The Lanterns, Bloor Homes’ stylish new development on Finedon Road, Irthlingborough, was given the rare opportunity to lay the first brick of her new home.

“In fact, I laid the first three,” Joanna says. Joanna is buying the Arden, a three-bedroom detached house at The Lanterns, and it promises to be her dream property when she moves in June. “I bought my current home under shared ownership” she says “and because of my age and being self-employed as a swimming and aqua-aerobics instructor, I was having difficulty qualifying for a mortgage. I couldn’t raise enough for a deposit for the type of property and the specification I wanted.

“Then last year I inherited some money, enough for a deposit. I started looking at properties, but I was still looking beyond my means. I continued visiting show homes to get ideas for décor, and when a friend mentioned The Lanterns I fell in love with the show home straight away. As soon as I saw it I knew it was my ideal home.

“I’m having the interior designed exactly the same as the show home – the same kitchen, which really provided the wow factor, and the same décor. Bloor has been brilliant. They have made buying a really easy process.”

The show home Joanna saw at The Lanterns was the Arden style of three-bedroom detached house, which provides a great family home. On the ground floor there is a spacious living room, a fitted kitchen, a dining room and a cloakroom. Upstairs are two double bedrooms (one en suite); a single bedroom – ideal as an office or playroom; and a family bathroom.

The Lanterns comprises a range of 140 two-, three- and four-bedroom houses. Their bright, airy interiors include modern fitted kitchens and contemporary bathrooms with a choice of colours, tiles and style (subject to the stage of construction), and the high-quality finish that is a hallmark of Bloor Homes’ developments.

Located midway between London and Birmingham, Irthlingborough is central, cost-effective and well-connected. The nearby towns of Kettering, Rushden and Wellingborough all benefit from superb road and rail connections. With a train journey time to St Pancras International, home of the Eurostar, of less than 50 minutes, Paris and Brussels are just four hours away.

Travelling closer to home is just as easy, with easy access to A14/45 and the M1/M6 cutting drive times to the UK’s major cities. Air travel is equally convenient, with Birmingham, East Midlands, Luton and Stansted Airports all within 90 minutes’ journey time.

Prices for homes currently available at The Lanterns start at £119,950. For further information on the development,  visit bloorhomes.com.
