‘Hook, line and sinker’ by St George’s Park

With fishing growing in popularity and an increasing number of anglers searching for their perfect swim and the next big catch, it’s not surprising that keen fisherman John Baker was hooked when he visited St George’s Park retirement village in Ditchling, East Sussex.
Already keen to buy a two bedroom apartment with his wife, he was sold hook, line and sinker when he discovered there was a large fishing lake and several well stocked ponds on site.
When John (79) and Jean (77) Baker first decided to downsize from their four bedroom house in Hove, John remembered reading about St George’s Park and Jean decided to make a visit.
“Jean came back very excited – it was love at first sight and as soon as I saw the retirement village I could understand why.” smiles John. “The setting is stunning and it’s just so rural and peaceful. For me, the icing on the cake was the fishing lakes. I have been a keen fisherman all my life and what could be better than having a lake on your doorstep, where I can go for a few hours whenever I choose. We only moved in in December and because of the mild weather I have been able to fish a couple of times already and managed to catch a perch and two good sized carp. I am now really looking forward to the longer lighter days when I can spend the whole day there.”
“We bought a two bedroom apartment that has unrestricted views from the double aspect lounge, and is simply great. From start to finish, the sales team at St George’s Park have been really helpful and since moving in, we have both been overwhelmed by the friendliness of all the residents. There is a real community spirit here with everyone wanting to enjoy and get the best out of their retirement. Jean and I are both very active and have played bowls for many years. I was amazed to see that people were still playing outside in December. This was due to the ‘all weather’ surface, which I found bowled very well. We are now looking forward to playing in the matches that will be organised in the forthcoming extended season.”
John concludes, “There is so much you can do with the various clubs, gym and library and we are really looking forward to the forthcoming leisure complex. Also, if you just want to be on your own there is no shortage of walks in the 250 acres of landscaped gardens and parkland."
