Jean can choose to enjoy the privacy of closing the front door of her two-bedroom apartment and when she craves company can join other home owners in the communal lounge.

“I’m a lively 80-year-old and have made new friends by moving here,” she said.

“We all get on exceptionally well and look out for each other. They call it ‘active retirement’ and that’s exactly what it is because we have a lot of activities we can join in with.”
