Budget tents in the Sahara

Following the opening of its luxury eco Sahara Safari Camp in February, Specialist Morocco has added some alternative sleeping tents, providing a low-cost option for those travelling on a limited budget.

Comments Nick Anstead, the man behind the desert camp: “Our camp opened in February with some great new caidal tents with ensuite bathrooms.

“Our budget option sleeping tents also have proper beds and duvets, the only difference is that the bathroom tent is a 5 metre walk away (each tent has its own private bathroom tent with a shower, so no sharing).

“This is the perfect solution for anyone travelling around Morocco on a budget; they can now enjoy a genuine wilderness experience in the famous Sahara desert, sleeping under the stars, without breaking the bank.”

Solar panels provide the energy to run the camp’s lanterns (and to recharge batteries) and there are also traditional candle lanterns – perfect for a romantic Moroccan meal, enjoyed alfresco.

The budget option sleeping tents cost from just £24 pp per night (2 sharing) – including dinner, soft drinks, tea and coffee (alcoholic drinks are available on request).

Specialist Morocco will also make the arrangements for people to travel by local bus from Marrakech to Tagounite (£11 per person one way) the nearest town which is 6km away, and then transfer them to the camp in a private 4WD.

Despite its remote setting, there is a choice of activities to enjoy including camel trekking tours, visit to the dunes of Chegaga, guided walks to desert villages, quad/buggy tours, nomad encounters and night-time star gazing.
