Children’s TV characters to put first class stamp on family day out
Children’s TV characters Postman Pat and Jess the Cat will be putting their first class stamp on a day full of fun and laughter for children, which has been arranged for May 5, 6 and 7 by the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway.
After a magnificent, seven-mile train journey on the narrow gauge railway, travelling from coast to mountains, guests on Lakeland’s most scenic steam railway will have an opportunity to meet and greet popular children’s characters Postman Pat® and Jess the Cat at Dalegarth.
The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway will give enormous pleasure to families boarding their chosen ‘Greendale Express’ service, with both steam and diesel locomotives in operation on the day. On arrival at Dalegarth, children will be able to say hello to Postman Pat® and Jess the Cat and have their pictures taken with them, as well as enjoying games, colouring and playtime in the beautifully-equipped children’s play area.
Postman Pat and Jess the Cat will have six 25-minute walkabouts on Saturday May 5 and Sunday May 6, with opportunities to meet the pair occurring between 11.15am and 4.40pm. On Monday May 7, there will be four walkabouts, the first starting at 10.15am and the last ending at 1.40pm.
Hilarious family shows given by magician Stu-Di-Doo will follow on from some of these walkabouts, with four magic shows on Saturday May 5, and five on both May 6 and 7, which will entertain young and old alike.
Families can choose to explore the environs of Dalegarth Station, if they wish to spend some time in the fresh mountain air around England’s highest peaks. There is also an excellent gift shop at the station, as well as the Fellbites Eatery, serving home-cooked fare, hot and cold dishes, daily specials and snacks and refreshments. Equally appetising is the selection of food available from the Turntable Café at Ravenglass.
The first train out from Ravenglass on each day is the 9.30am diesel-hauled service. The first steam train departs Ravenglass at 10.30am and arrives at 11.10am. The last trains back from Dalegarth depart at 4.50m each day. Services run throughout the day.
Tickets for return journey and entertainment at Dalegarth on these May dates cost £13.50 for adults and £7.50 for children. Booking tickets online at ravenglass-railway.co.uk gives a 5% discount.
