Ullswater Steamers to put the ‘B’ into Jubilee!

18th May 2012 Print

Award-winning lake cruise company, Ullswater ‘Steamers’, is planning some exquisite JuBilee celebrations this year, with a big emphasis on the B, as it lays on brass, bunting and boats for those drinking bubbly, bringing a basket and celebrating being decidedly British!

A Diamond Jubilee Brass and Bunting cruise has been especially arranged for the evening of Tuesday, June 5, with a boat decked out in fluttering Union Jacks departing at 7pm, from Glenridding, at the bottom of the lake, for an idyllic two-hour cruise.

The Penrith Local Town Brass Band will be on board, playing some rousing rhythms to get the patriotic mood whipped up to a frenzy and all passengers will be offered a complimentary glass of cava to raise a toast to HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

Those booking for this experience will be invited to dress to impress, in a right royal fashion, in keeping with a thoroughly civilised evening spent cruising on England’s most beautiful lake, in the shadow of mighty Helvellyn and with the backdrop of the stunning Cumbrian fells.

Passengers can bring a picnic to eat on board as they listen to the music and enjoy the beauty of their surroundings. Refreshments can also be bought on board the heritage boat.

Ullswater Steamers’ marketing manager, Rachel Bell, says: “This atmospheric cruise will be full of Jubilee memories in years to come, whether that is connected to the music, the camaraderie on board, the reflections of the mountains on the lake, or the sight of the sun setting behind the fells. Ullswater is one of England’s gems and there are few finer places to enjoy an al fresco Jubilee extravaganza in 2012”.

Tickets for this unique and evocative way of celebrating the Diamond Jubilee cost £12.50 per person and can be bought online at ullswater-steamers.co.uk.
