Keen embroiderers, or those just starting out in this form of craftwork, can combine a stay in the beautiful Lake District with a truly unique workshop, at which they will gain skills, enjoy a relaxing atmosphere and be inspired throughout their stay by the works of Beatrix Potter.

Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel in Bowness, from which the author wrote her ‘Tale of Timmy Tiptoes’ and her ‘Tale of Pigling Bland’, has teamed up with embroidery experts, Ornamental Embroidery, to create a unique accommodation and workshop experience running between September 17 and 18.

The embroidery workshop staged at Lindeth Howe will be a silk shading workshop inspired by Beatrix Potter’s illustrations of fungi, which gained acclaim amongst the scientific community in the 1890s. This mycological collection was bequeathed to the Armitt Museum in Ambleside and the workshop will begin with a visit to the Armitt, to view Potter’s watercolours.

After that half-day trip, participants will be inspired in the art of silk shading, with the stitch workshop covering 1.5 days of expert tuition and practical craftwork, as attendees work on a kit inspired by one of Beatrix’s studies of fungi.

The cost of the workshop is £185 including materials and the museum trip. An additional £36 covers morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea.

The specially priced accommodation package, bookable by workshop attendees only, costs £174 per person for a two-night stay based on two people sharing. This is for dinner, bed and breakfast, with dinner comprising five delicious courses prepared by talented chefs in a 2AA Rosette restaurant.

Lindeth Howe offers stunning views over Lake Windermere and is instantly welcoming to guests, with a cosy lounge, log fires and beautiful bedrooms. It also boasts an indoor swimming pool and sauna and a holistic treatment area. It displays some of its Potter memorabilia and has a calm ambience, enhanced by its location on the hill above Bowness and its six acres of gardens.

Anyone wishing to book for the workshop should email info[at]ornamentalembroidery.com. The accommodation package can be booked at lindeth-howe.co.uk.
