The 2013 Northern Lights spectacular

23rd July 2012 Print

It is predicted that 2013 will be one of the best years for a long time to witness the magical Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) high above the Arctic Circle.

Here are two ways in which to enjoy this extraordinary event with sister companies Walks Worldwide and the recently-launched Adventure Worldwide.

Adventure Worldwide - Lapland – Northern Lights Special (4 days)

Experts are predicting that 2013 will be the most spectacular Aurora display for many years and, consequently, Adventure Worldwide has put together a 4-day Lapland – Northern Lights Special itinerary, providing a chance to see it high above the Arctic Circle in Lapland.

The holiday is based at a remote hotel high above the Arctic Circle. With very little light pollution and long periods of darkness, this enhances the Aurora viewing potential. There will also be an 'Aurora Workshop' with a guide who will explain about the natural phenomenon and give some useful photographic tips.

Although the focus of the trip is to see Aurora at its very best, the itinerary also includes some fun snow activities during the day such as snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and driving a husky team. To warm the bones at the end of each day, the hotel has a traditional Finnish sauna.

The trip departs in January/February & March 2013 and costs from £775 pp (2 sharing) which includes flights, 3-nights full board, all transportation, activities and a tour leader/guide.

Walks Worldwide – Call of the Wild (8 days)

Walks Worldwide’s 8-day winter trip to Finland entitled Call of the Wild also includes a chance to witness the Northern Lights. Staying in a log cabin just beneath the Arctic Circle, the wilderness forests and frozen lakes of the Taiga are the perfect location a winter adventure holiday. One of Europe’s last great wilderness areas, the region is home to a variety of wild life including Wolf, Lynx, Bear (in hibernation in winter), Wolverine, Pine Marten, Elk and Reindeer. Snow activities include cross-country skiing, a mini-snowshoe overnight expedition into the wilds and learning how to make an igloo.

The trip departs in January/February & March 2013 and costs from £1095 pp which includes 6-nights’ accommodation (log cabin with saunas), all meals, English-speaking guide, group airport transfers, land transfers for itinerary activities and all equipment for activities as detailed in the itinerary. Flight inclusive prices on request.
