Historic 19th century hotel to open in Worcestershire

The Wood Norton

The Wood Norton, a newly restored Grade II listed boutique hotel in the Vale of Evesham, is set to open this autumn following a major £4 million restoration.

The new Wood Norton effortlessly combines an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary design in the heart of Worcestershire's picturesque countryside. It features original 19th century oak panelling, parquet flooring, exquisite carving and statement fireplaces crafted for the European royalty that once lived here.

Formerly owned by the BBC for corporate purposes and serving as a listening post in the Cold War, The Wood Norton was bought by a private investor in 2012. Following a carefully formulated £4m restoration The Wood Norton is once again at the centre of hospitality in Worcestershire.

Consisting of three main buildings, The Hall, Pear Tree Mews and Smith's House, each room or suite at The Wood Norton is unique in style but all are well-appointed and beautifully crafted.

The Hall, the oldest part of the property which dates back to 1897, features 20 traditional bedrooms alongside the dining room, bar, snooker room and various lounge and meeting rooms.

Many of the bedrooms in The Hall feature roll top bath suites, wood panelled walls and views over the landscaped gardens and Worcestershire countryside.

A further 30 rooms have been created in Pear Tree Mews. Formerly the stables and coach house, Pear Tree Mews offers more contemporary rooms set around a pretty cobbled courtyard. Pear Tree has its own private entrance and also offers accessible rooms.

Smith's House, once the Estate's blacksmiths, is part of The Wood Norton's business area with modern meeting and syndicate rooms.

The exterior of the property comprises spectacular and elegant gardens and lawn areas designed by English Heritage Gardens specialist Peter Baldock.  The early layout of the gardens will replicate a classic historic pattern and parterre style. This modern fusion of classic French and Edwardian English styles will see the gardens of The Wood Norton feature small beds with paths, hedging and topiary, inspired by classical ideals of order and beauty.

The Wood Norton is the perfect hotel for all types of visitor from business clients and day visitors looking for a delicious lunch in a beautiful setting to those looking for a country house retreat.

Dining at The Wood Norton is also an elegant affair with all types of dining experiences on offer. The Restaurant at The Wood Norton will focus on serving superlative British cuisine and locally sourced produce in a relaxed professional environment. Guests can choose to dine alfresco on the South Terrace overlooking the lawns and The Bar at The Wood Norton will be open all day serving a more informal menu created with the freshest ingredients. A destination in its own right, The Bar offers a vibrant and colourful contrast to the traditional panelling of the main lounges, where the pewter bar top and overall riot of colour create a distinctly fashionable atmosphere.

The hotel is easily reached by road or rail and is located just a few miles from the centre of Evesham and only approximately 11 miles from Junction 6 of the M5. There are direct rail links from London Paddington with journey times of less than two hours.

Rooms at The Wood Norton, which include a choice of historic suites and bedrooms in the main hall and more modern accommodation in the adjacent Mews, start from £85 per room per night including full English breakfast. Suites start from £235 per room per night.

The Wood Norton also holds a wedding license and can cater for small meetings and conferences.
