Fiat Grande Punto awarded five star rating for safety

Fiat Auto’s all-new Grande Punto – which goes on sale in the UK early next year – has been awarded the maximum five-star rating in the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) crash tests.

This independent consortium has been carrying out crash tests on vehicles since 1997, and awards 1 to 5 stars, depending on the results. Its assessment groups the new Italian supermini with the best in its class as regards adult occupant protection.

The Euro NCAP result confirms Grande Punto’s uncompromising safety concept, with testers awarding the model 33 out of a possible 37 points. In front-end barrier crash tests, the test car – a three-door Grande Punto 1.2 Dynamic – achieved 14 points or 85%. In the side impact crash test it scored 18 points and 98%. Two more points for the seatbelt reminder brought Grande Punto up to an overall 33 points. Conclusion: testers rated the risk of injury and potential stress to the head, chest and limbs in the new Fiat as being very low. Experts were also impressed with the Grande Punto’s performance in the separately assessed Euro NCAP categories of child safety and pedestrian protection.

The Grande Punto’s outstanding profile in the Euro NCAP tests underlines Fiat’s leading position on safety in the supermini class. The new Fiat benefits from the comprehensive expertise of the Italian car manufacturer and its intensive research in the field of safety, both active and passive.
