Guernsey events put food in the spotlight

Guernsey’s gastronomic offering is in the spotlight with the first-ever Taste Guernsey Food Festival set to take place from 31 August to 2 September and the ever-popular Tennerfest from 1 October to 11 November. And great package deals are available for both events!

Taste Guernsey Festival

Over three busy days, this new event will give locals and visitors alike the chance to enjoy the best Guernsey produce and the skills of food professionals with a full programme of tastings, tours and talks. Special menus, impromptu picnics, behind-the-scenes tours, quizzes and even foraging events are all planned.

At the heart of the action will be the Taste Guernsey Kitchen in the island’s capital St Peter Port, with demonstrations from local and visiting chefs.  Many events are free and more information can be found at tasteguernsey.com.

Preston Holidays (prestonholidays.co.uk) has a weekend offer at the 3-star Best Western Moores in St Peter Port  -  arrive Friday 31 August for two nights and get the Sunday night free (total stay  three nights). From £289 per person, based on two people sharing on a bed and breakfast basis, flying from Gatwick.

Condor Breaks (condorbreaks.com) can offer a two night break at the three-star Fleur du Jardin Hotel in Le Castel from £262 per person on 31 August and 1 September. The price is based on two sharing on bed and breakfast basis and includes return fast ferry from Poole to Guernsey for car and two passengers.

Tennerfest

More than 160 restaurants, cafes and hotels will take part in the 2012 Tennerfest.  Hugely popular with both locals and visitors, this event showcases Guernsey’s dining scene, with a host of specially discounted fixed price menus available starting from just £10 and rising to £17.50.

Fly Guernsey (flyguernsey.com) is offering a two night stay at the three-star Green Acres Hotel between 1 and 30 October from £219 per person – or stay for three nights and get the third night free. The price is based on two sharing on a bed and breakfast basis and includes parking at Gatwick airport, return flights from Gatwick and car hire throughout your stay in Guernsey.  Departures and airport parking are also available from many regional airports.

Preston Holidays (prestonholidays.co.uk) is offering three nights for the price of two at the four-star Fermain Valley Hotel near St Peter Port throughout October. Prices on a bed and breakfast basis are from £299 per person, flying from Gatwick.

Less than an hour’s flight from nine UK airports, Guernsey is easy to get to and once there visitors can explore miles of dramatic clifftop paths, peaceful rural lanes, secluded bays and sweeping beaches  -  plenty of time to work up an appetite!

Guernsey food is some of the best around, with the island’s world-famous dairy produce and ultra-fresh seafood among the highlights.
