A Lake District hotel is grasping the nettle which petrol costs present for accommodation in rural locations and is offering guests the opportunity to enjoy a petrol-purchase-free paradise against the backdrop of the stunning Lakeland fells, by combining six different and easy ways of getting around on arrival.

Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel is following in the footsteps of a former owner of the property, Beatrix Potter, who encouraged her readers to enjoy the simpler things in life, nature, gardens and wildlife.

Lindeth Howe has created a “Petrol-Purchase-Free Package” that encourages guests to leave the car behind, allowing it to have a vacation while its owners holiday in The Lakes. This gives guests a delightful two-night, dinner, bed and breakfast stay for just £110 per person, per night, staying in a superior room at a hotel rich in heritage and enjoying stunning views over Lake Windermere.

The package includes the use of an electric bike throughout the stay and a packed lunch each day. Breakfast is of the hearty, Cumbrian kind, while dinner is a five-course affair served in a 2 AA Rosette dining room.

The hotel suggests six modes of transport that are available as car-free options during a stay These are: electric bike, on foot, bus, boat, Mountain Goat luxury mini-coach tour and taxi. Using these means, guests can also reach a location at which they can enjoy a steam train ride and even maybe use a golf buggy at the nearby Windermere Golf Club, if playing a round!

Lindeth Howe’s hotel general manager Alison Magee-Barker says: “Some people fear travelling without the car, because it is difficult to get around when they reach their destination. This is not the case here.

“The cost of a return trip by car, in terms of petrol cost and if travelling a fair distance, could equate to that of a two-night dinner bed and breakfast stay for one person on this special electric bike package, if not more. The message is to forget the car, relax in luxurious surroundings, explore as Beatrix Potter would have recommended, be greener in your travel and save money!”
