Families Worldwide has a wide choice of trips to choose from this Christmas for families that would rather seek tigers in India or go dog sledding in Slovakia rather than watch re-runs of the Jungle Book or Lady and the Tramp!

Here are four ideas for a ‘Great Escape’ this Christmas:

Christmas in the Slovakian snow:

Head for the snowy mountains of Slovakia on a week-long action-packed trip to the High Tatras Mountains of Slovakia this Christmas. The exciting itinerary includes skiing (cross-country or downhill), snowboarding, dog-sledding and snowshoeing through pine forests, a soak in the thermal pools and fun on the indoor waterslides at Aqua City in Poprad. The holiday departs on 22 December and costs from £1029 per child (age guide 7-16), £1049 per adult which includes flights, all transportation, 7-nights’ B&B (plus 2 lunches and 1 dinner), activities as detailed on the itinerary and the services of a tour leader.

Taj & Tigers (India) this Christmas:

Bring the Jungle Book to life on the 11-day Taj and Tigers trip to India departing 21 December. Highlights will include an exploration of the pink city of Jaipur, a city tour of Old Delhi, a train ride to Ajmer and a tiger safari in the famous Ranthambhore National Park. There will also be a visit to the Taj Mahal, an elephant ride (optional) following a visit to the Amber Fort, rickshaw ride, a Bollywood film (optional) and a sunset camel ride. The holiday costs from £1599 per child (min. age 5) and £1849 per adult which includes flights, all transportation, 9 nights’ B&B (plus 3 lunches & 5 dinners), activities as detailed on the itinerary and the services of a tour leader.

Active Costa Rica

Head for the rainforest and sunshine of Central America on the 10-day Active Costa Rica trip departing 22 December. The country is flanked by the Pacific Ocean on one side and the Caribbean Sea on the other is also home to 10% of the entire planet’s butterfly population! Highlights will include Cahuita on the Caribbean Coast (and canoeing in the national park), horse riding at a working ranch at Sarapiqui, white-water rafting on the Sarapiqui River, mountain biking, a visit to the Arenal volcano and a canopy tour through the rain forest by zip wire. The holiday costs from £2199 per child (age 9+), £2329 per adult which includes flights, all transportation, 8 nights’ B&B and the services of a tour leader.

Ceylon Discovery

Known as Buddha’s Island, Sri Lanka is a country of enormous variety. With its amazing history of early Buddhism, lush green forests and jungle, cool highlands, ornate temples, wonderful food and friendly people, it’s an ideal destination. Highlights include the caves and temple at Dambulla, a cycle ride through local villages (plus a cookery lesson), climbing the rock at Sigiriya, a city tour of Kandy, game drive in the Uda Walawe National Park, a visit to a tea plantation and chilling on the beach at Galle.
