Do you dream of being an artist and creating magnificent works of art but lack creative talent? Well now, thanks to ibis hotels and Sleep Art, you can turn that dream into a reality and create your own masterpiece whilst you sleep without lifting a paintbrush.

Ibis has teamed up with Swedish robotics firm Acne and the creative gurus at BETC Digital to develop a unique technological experience which charts the comfort of a night's sleep in one of its hotels on canvas.

A robot connected to the hi-tech bedding through sensors and digital relays uses 'sleep data' to reproduce the guest's night's slumber. The robot, located in Paris, is fed the unique data from and starts working as soon as the customer nods off, transforming each body movement into a stroke on the canvas, culminating in a work of art unique to that customer and that night's sleep.

Body temperatures and pressure on the mattress, as well as sounds and vibrations are then translated into raw sleep data which adds the finishing touches to the artwork.

80 sensors concealed in the mattress transmit temperature, movements and sounds vial a digital signal to the robot in Paris which transforms these unique elements of sleep into brush strokes, transferring the sleep onto canvas live throughout the night.

Sleep Art will be visiting three European Capitals this autumn:

Paris: from October 13 to 23, 2012

Berlin: from November 1 to 11, 2012

London: from November 19 to 23, 2012

In London, Sleep Art will be housed at the new flagship ibis London Blackfriars hotel on which opened this October, moments from London's Southbank - fittingly the Capital's home of arts and culture.

Thomas Dubaere, Managing Director, Accor UK & Ireland, said: "This is a fantastic piece of technology and a wonderful opportunity to create a truly unique and highly personal piece of art at our flagship ibis London Blackfriars hotel. The artworks created will, of course, vary greatly between each guest; deep sleepers who crash out as soon as their heads hit the pillows may encourage straight and simple lines whereas light sleepers who tend to toss and turn all night long may create a piece of art that's a little more abstract. It will be fascinating to see the completed artworks."

To be one of 40 sleep artists selected to experience this one-of-a-kind night's sleep visit ibis's Facebook page, facebook.com/ibis. The artwork will be filmed throughout its creation process and then shared on the brand's Facebook page, enabling the technological experience to be shared. The competition winners will receive a digital illustration of their artwork as a memento of this unique night's experience.

Ibis London Blackfriars opened this month as a flagship UK hotel, showcasing a repositioning of the economy brand with fresh contemporary design, technological innovation and outstandingly comfortable beds.

Sleep Art will feature in one of ibis's new concept beds. Sweet Bed by ibis is a unique bedding concept design, engineered and built by ibis and currently rolling out across all ibis hotels in the UK and internationally.
