Sunday Times gives Vauxhall Ampera top eco award
Vauxhall’s revolutionary Ampera E-REV has garnered yet another gong for its trophy cabinet, after The Sunday Times awarded it Best Electric Car and Hybrid.
Sunday Times Driving – the paper’s new motoring section, which replaces In Gear – has launched with a ‘Top 100 Cars’ section, and the judging panel put the Ampera a clear first in the eco-car group.
‘The Ampera offers excellent and silent performance and all-electric transport,’ said a spokesperson. ‘It’s a brilliant solution. But it’s no less brilliant than the execution of the rest of the car. The Ampera is also a great-looking car inside and out, comfortable on a long journey and easy to understand and operate.’
The prestigious award joins a growing list of accolades and trophies for the Ampera, which reached UK showrooms in May this year. Innovative and genuinely usable like no other conventional electric vehicle, the Ampera has a real-world battery range of between 25-50 miles, after which a small range-extender motor intervenes to provide up to an additional 300-plus mile range. At all the times, the Ampera’s wheels are electrically driven, setting it apart from hybrid vehicles.
Ampera pricing starts at £29,995 (including £5,000 government grant) for the Earth model. The car is available through a network of 24 specialist Vauxhall dealers.
