Hundreds of shoppers in Chelmsford got more than they bargained for after visiting the Freeport Centre recently.

Visitors were greeted with a pop-up showroom, from Inchcape Volkswagen, designed to showcase the Volkswagen’s latest iconic Beetle and the brand’s new compact city car, the up!

It was the first time Inchcape Volkswagen has used this type of event as the retailer’s sales manager, Stuart Lund, explained.

He said: “The event was designed to give shoppers the opportunity to see a new car in an alternative environment.

“We wanted something different for the launch of these new vehicles, offering people a new way to view our products. So we decided to take the cars to the shoppers.

“The event was a great success and was an ideal opportunity to engage with people in a completely different location.

“We were delighted to receive such positive feedback from shoppers with comments on the Beetle’s new sporty design through to the up! being a lot of car for its money.”

The up!, Volkswagen’s cleverly compact car, is just 3.54 metres long and 1.64 metres wide the four-seater is surprisingly spacious with a colourful interior.

Available in three trim levels beginning with the Take up!, as the entry level, progressing to the Move up!, upgrading to the High up! and finishing with the special edition up! black and up! white. Each level offers enhanced specifications while embodying the core values of the brand in an innovative and compact package.

For the first time in a Volkswagen, the up! features the Maps & More system, as an optional extra, which is a mobile Infotainment device developed to manage telephone calls, navigational and entertainment needs.

Stuart added: “The up! is a great city vehicle and the model range will enable us to find a car to suit all budgets.

“The Beetle is a well loved car and the new version is set to mark another chapter in the history of this automotive icon.

“It gives customers the opportunity to drive a car with an unmistakable, individual style.

“Beetle fans who are music lovers will be delighted with the 400W output of the optional Fender sound pack and subwoofer which feature a three colour illumination around the front loudspeakers.”

In addition to the modern interpretation of the iconic car, the new Beetle comes with air conditioning, remote central locking, an RCD 310 CD system with DAB radio and rear Isofix seat preparation as standard.
