Blue Peter asks children to 'Go Pyjamas' for BBC Children in Need
Children across the UK are being asked to 'Go Pyjamas' for BBC Children in Need, with the launch today of the 2012 Blue Peter Appeal.
For five weeks, running up to the BBC Children in Need Appeal on Friday 16 November, the world’s longest-running children’s programme is challenging children and their families to get sponsored to wear their nightwear during the day.
Whether it’s a pyjama party with friends, a onesie day at school, doing a sponsored walk or playing football in your pjs, Blue Peter presenters Helen Skelton and Barney Harwood will be showing viewers the best ways to raise money and why it’s important to take part.
Teen sensation One Direction – famous already for being photographed wearing one-piece pyjamas – are backing the appeal and have recorded a good-luck message for the show.
Band member Harry Styles said: “There are loads of things you could do - maybe you could get sponsored to go to Scouts or Guides in your pyjamas!”
Louis Tomlinson added: “If you want to wear your pyjamas in public and not get into trouble for it – you can! It’s all for a good cause, Children in Need, so get involved and Go Pyjamas!”
To thank viewers for taking part Helen and Barney will be turning up unannounced in their pyjamas at different viewers’ events across the country, gatecrashing fundraisers in spectacular style along with some very special guests.
Kids across the UK can send in pictures and videos of themselves 'Going Pyjamas' with their families and friends, which could be used on the website or even the show.
On 8 November, the programme will be attempting to beat a Guinness World Record™ for the largest gathering of people wearing one-piece pyjamas in a live world record attempt filmed at the Blue Peter studios at Salford Quays. The current record stands at 309 participants.
And on 12 and 13 November, Helen and Barney will attempt to get on as many TV and radio shows as possible in 24 hours to talk about the appeal.
Helen Skelton comments: “The brilliant thing about Blue Peter appeals is that it’s really easy for any child to get involved. What could be easier than putting on your pyjamas and doing something unusual to raise money for such a great cause? We can’t wait to see the amazing things that our viewers will to do raise much-needed cash for children in need across the UK.”
