Vauxhall Adam Review

Early 2013 will see the arrival of the new Vauxhall Adam, Vauxhall’s new offering for the city hatch market. Due to launch in February, the three-door, four-seater features dynamic styling and compact dimensions that are designed to make urban life a breeze.

Vauxhall is aiming to compete with the Fiat 500 and MINI hatchback, so personalisation is key. Three trims are available from launch, each with a different character – Jam (fashionable), Glam (luxury) or Slam (sporty). In addition, a range of wheels and colours are being offered to allow buyers to customise their model to their specific tastes.

Wrapped up in all this fancy packaging is a choice of three petrol engines – a 1.2-litre 70PS, a 1.4-litre 87PS and a 1.4-litre 100PS. All feature start-stop technology, which is ideal for anyone who might face heavy traffic on their daily commute, and the most economical model delivers 56.5mpg and emissions of 118g/km. The selectable ‘city mode’ improves the power-assisted steering at low speeds, making navigating the streets easier – again, another function designed for city living.

Inside, the new Vauxhall Adam feels the part. The theme of personalisation is continued, with a plethora of accessory, trim and treatment combinations. It falls down a little on space, however – taller rear passengers will find themselves wanting more legroom or having to slouch slightly to avoid grazing the roof on rougher surfaces.

An impressive array of technologies and optional features is available to let drivers enhance their new Vauxhall Adam. A seven-inch infotainment system takes centre stage and offers Android and Apple phone compatibility as well as satellite navigation. Options include parking assistance and an illuminated starlight interior roof panel, as seen on the rather more prestigious Rolls Royce Phantom.
