First phase of 650-home scheme in South Ockendon sold to Persimmon

St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, has sold the first phase of the residential scheme planned for the former Ford manufacturing plant in South Ockendon, to Persimmon Homes Ltd. In 2011, St. Modwen received outline planning permission for 650 new homes on the site.

Persimmon subsequently submitted a reserved matters application for part of the site to Thurrock Council and on 31 May 2012 received planning consent for detailed development of 92 homes. St. Modwen will sell further phases of the development when the remainder of the site is vacated.

St. Modwen acquired the 30-acre site from Ford in 2006 and is currently managing it as an industrial estate while progressing the residential development proposals, which include plans for two, three and four bedroom family homes and apartments, extensive landscaping and public open space. Additional community benefits, including financial contributions for education, health and new affordable homes, will also be provided.
