Beware the crazy hair in new kid’s app

20th November 2012 Print

For every kid that’s ever hated the hairbrush this latest app from innovative children’s book and app publisher, Digital Leaf, will mean loads of laughs plus the chance to decapitate a jelly baby or two! (Don’t worry, they don’t feel a thing!)

‘Oh, What A Tangle!’ is based on the original book by former primary school teacher, Anita Pouroulis, which is also published by Digital Leaf. The delightfully dreamy illustrations are a debut by Monika Filipina Trzpil who is a student in the prestigious Master of Arts programme at East Anglia university.
‘Tangle’ tells the story of Kiki, a young girl who is too busy having a good time to brush her hair.

Unbrushed and unloved it soon becomes one big barnet that is full of surprises. It’s a nightmare for her Mum, but this is no bad hair day for Kiki! She loves it when a family of birds moves in!
But, hold the hairbrush, there’s more!

The ‘Tangle’ app comes complete with puzzles and games providing interactive entertainment at many levels for children aged 4+. There are fingernails to paint, each a different colour, and hair to style, not to mention, cutting the heads off some jelly babies! A special bonus game is unlocked if the kids can find and count all the 'hidden’ hairbrushes in every scene.

A novel feature of this app is that kids can choose from an adult narrator or a kid's voice, which is fun for them, or they can read it themselves, or with an adult. The app is priced on the iTunes App Store and the Google Play store at UK£2.99/US$4.99.

This is the third book by Anita Pouroulis that Digital Leaf has developed as an animated, interactive app. The first - 'Pancake Pandemonium' - was released on 1 October 2012 and has already had over 20,000 downloads.

That was followed by ‘My Monster Mayhem’ which was launched in late October and leapt straight on to many ‘Best Apps for Halloween’ lists and is a Top iOS App of the Week.

Digital Leaf co-founder Neil Jeffries describes ‘Oh, What A Tangle!’ as a ‘gorgeous app.’

‘This app has it all: an engaging story, beautiful hand-drawn illustrations, and great interactivity. This is an app that will keep grownups laughing, and will really get kid’s imaginations running wild,’ he said.
