Christmas comes early for Asda savings customers

20th November 2012 Print

Asda Money has announced that it has paid out over £1million in bonuses to over 500,000 Christmas Savings Card customers to help towards their Christmas shopping this festive period.

The card allows customers to save up to £144 on each card (customers can save money on more than one card), for which Asda has paid a tiered bonus if the money remained on the card until 18 November this year. Customers can save as little as £1 a week but for those that reach £49 or more Asda will pay the following bonuses:

Saved £144 – bonus is £6
Saved £97 – bonus is £3
Saved £49 – bonus is £1

With the Savings Card, customers can receive up to 5.21% AER gross. With interest rates so low at the moment, this option offers a much better return than traditional savings accounts.

Kirsty Ward, Head of Asda Money says: “Our customers’ savings patterns demonstrate that despite times being tough, they still see the benefit of saving throughout the year for Christmas. They are now reaping the rewards and the money they have been putting away each week, topped up by the Asda bonus, can be used to help cover their Christmas food bill or go towards their children’s presents. Everyone deserves a good celebration this Christmas and we hope the Savings Card and bonus will give customers the boost they need. We’re also delighted to be able to say that we will be continuing with our Christmas Savings Card next year – and for the foreseeable future.”

Kirsty Ward continues: “Our Christmas Savings Card is available in all our stores – all year round. It’s never too early to start saving for Christmas! In fact we find that our busiest time of year for Customers starting a Christmas Savings Card is January.”
