A new name for The du Maurier Festival
2013 sees a fresh look to one of Cornwall's much loved festivals. The Fowey Festival of Words and Music is the new name for Cornwall's most popular festival of arts and entertainment, formerly The du Maurier Festival, Fowey.
Since 1997, Fowey has hosted this annual festival, which has brought countless internationally renowned writers, performers and entertainers to Cornwall, creating a buzz of excitement in the town and attracting festival-goers to Fowey from across the UK and overseas.
The Fowey Festival's new image reflects the vibrancy and energy of the event, which will continue the eclectic mix of events which gives the festival its widespread appeal and makes it one of the most popular festivals of its kind in the country.
With its exciting programme of events, including talks by leading writers, performances by star names from the worlds of music and comedy, workshops, guided walks, river cruises as well a range of community events the Fowey Festival will continue the tradition of the du Maurier Festival, pleasing existing fans and enticing first time visitors to what has become a leading event in Cornwall's cultural calendar.
The 2013 Festival will include as many du Maurier related events as ever, reflecting the strong links between the author and town, where she spent a large part of her life, and Cornwall, which inspired many of her celebrated books.
The Festival is embedded in the heart of the quintessential Cornish harbour side town of Fowey, with panoramic views over the river, busy with boats, ferries and water taxis, and beyond to the open sea.
At the launch of the new look Festival, a glimpse of the eminent line up for the 2013 Festival was revealed. Already confirmed are writer and broadcaster Jonathan Dimbleby, star of musical theatre Ruthie Henshall and best selling author of the worldwide hit War Horse, Michael Morpurgo.
"The Festival has a long tradition of bringing top quality writers, musicians, comedians and celebrities to Fowey. Many times, these artists have commented on the special pleasure they have in coming to Cornwall, to appear at the Festival. They love Fowey and enjoy the quirky charm of the Festival and its tented village, there really is nothing like it in the entire south west. That is what makes it so special. With the new name and logo the Festival will go from strength to strength. I hope you can join us - it'll be fun!" comments Jonathan Aberdeen, Festival Director.
