Santa Pod presents the FWD Drag Series
Santa Pod Raceway, the home of European Drag Racing, has unveiled an exciting new series that will offer enthusiasts looking to graduate up to fully MSA sanctioned competition a cost-effective ‘first rung’ into fully accredited club-level motorsport.
The venue’s latest FWD Drag Series brings the best of the machinery and ethos from the likes of the Euro Sports Compact and Jap Drag Series and brings it all together under one exciting new banner. As the name suggests, the new series is aimed at FWD cars only, but with a relaxed set of regulations making almost anything eligible, it’s bound to attract a whole new generation of drag racers, campaigning all manner of 4 and 6 cylinder European and Japanese machinery.
Run over 6-well attended events throughout the year, and with plans to have the series televised on Motors TV, the FWDDS offers a high-profile, low cost platform to all FWD drag racers, no matter what body or engine they may choose. As the ultimate test of tuned front wheel drive cars, drivers will go head to head in drag racing competition to find the nation’s top FWD racer. Entrants compete for the championship as well as the individual event wins, trophies and prize money. This is a serious step up from ‘Run What You Brung’ – with all of the spoils of victory that go with it!
Commenting on the launch of the series, Santa Pod’s Assistant General Manager Neale Saunders said, ‘The FWD Drag Series is the ideal way to elevate from the fun of RWYB sessions into genuine, competitive motorsport. We know that there are many enthusiasts out there looking to make that leap, and with 19 drivers already signed up for 2013 and a wide range of both normally aspirated, forced induction and nitrous cars making up the ranks, we should see some really varied and interesting racing. Knowing what an addictive sport this is, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we see the next Andy Carter or Barry Sheavills rising out of this fantastic series.’
