Romantic cottages for Valentine breaks

Spout Barn

Romantic holiday cottages with Valentine’s Day availability at Sykes Cottages includes a converted barn with a round bed, a 13th century Monks’ house and a forest cottage with a hot tub.

In a courtyard setting on a Derbyshire hillside, between Matlock and Belper, Spout Barn is an imaginative barn conversion for a memorable romantic escape.  The master suite boasts a quirky king-sized bed, which is perfectly round!  Downstairs, the contemporary open plan living area is both stylish and cosy, with central heating throughout and a big purple sofa for cuddling up on.  A dog is welcome, and there is good walking from the front doorstep.  Valentine’s week is only £232.

Couples who can’t bring themselves to get out of bed –certainly not to cook – should try Monks Cottage next to (but separate from) the Old Hall Inn in the Yorkshire Dales.  The pub will happily provide meals for guests at this Grade II Listed cottage, which dates to the 13th century and features stone-mullioned windows, original beams and an inglenook fireplace.  The welcoming king-sized bed is in the galleried roof space, with a luxurious en-suite.  A DVD library, books, games, WiFi and CD player as well as TV offer plenty of entertainment for the long dark evenings…  Three nights over Valentine’s costs £308.

And in the Forest of Dean, Lilly Cottage offers a hot tub just for two, set beneath a green oak gazebo on the paved terrace of this simple cottage.  The view from the tub is over roofs to the forest, and this quiet bolt hole offers privacy despite being one of three on the edge of Whitecroft village.  Upstairs the double bedroom is cosy and quiet, downstairs the slate-tiled floors, white-painted kitchen and wood-burner create a cosy country style. Three nights including Valentine’s Day costs £265.
