Milestone for Compton Park redevelopment

The team effort behind one of Wolverhampton’s most prestigious new developments was praised as Redrow celebrated its role in the redevelopment of Compton Park.
Redrow chairman Steve Morgan was joined by Mayor of Wolverhampton Cllr Mrs Christine Mills, football legend Steve Bull and VIP guests at the official launch of the new homes venture.
Steve Morgan described the project as a perfect opportunity for a unique collaboration as he explained how Sir Geoffrey Hampton initially approached him 18 months ago and suggested the possibility of the university moving into the city centre and selling the Compton Park campus; St Edmund’s Catholic School relocating; and Wolves building a new training academy. Redrow building homes as part of the redevelopment was the one of the key pieces in the jigsaw, providing the funding boost the project needed.
“I thought we had mountains to move to make this happen, but thankfully down to the hard work and effort of the university, the council, the school, Wolves and a lot of other people in my team we have put this together,” Steve said.
“It’s one of the most prestigious developments Wolverhampton has seen for decades. It’s generated a £50million economic boom with jobs building houses and the school along with new jobs at the football academy and the university facility.”
Steve thanked the Mayor for agreeing to officially open the five-bedroom Highgrove show home by performing the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Mayor of Wolverhampton Cllr Christine Mills said: “I was on the planning committee when the application was submitted and have been involved in Building Schools for the Future from the beginning so it’s amazing to see how things have progressed. This really is a good news story for Wolverhampton. The whole scheme with the new school and the football academy is amazing, but one thing we need in Wolverhampton is more executive homes. This development is exactly what the city needs – we don’t want people moving out to the Shires.”
A total of 55 new homes are being constructed on around eight acres of land at Compton Park.
Demand is expected to be high as some 280 potential purchasers had registered their interest in the properties, which are some of the largest and most luxurious homes from Redrow’s sought-after New Heritage Collection.
