Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum to re-open in 2013

19th January 2013 Print

Cheltenham’s Art Gallery & Museum is to re-open during 2013, following a major new build costing in the region of £6-million.

The elegant and stylish, new-look venue will combine old and new, to offer a fresh legacy for the Regency town in the heart of The Cotswolds.

It will boast more space and a confident new exterior look, with a dedicated picture gallery.  It will also become home to a new retail outlet for the Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen Gallery - called “Guild at 51”.

The town’s Tourist Information Centre is to be relocated to the new Art Gallery & Museum, and a café-bistro will be open during both daytime and evening hours.

Four new floors house a gallery dedicated to a fine art collection; space to discover more about local heroes, including Edward Wilson (one of Scott’s key men on his 1912 expedition to Antarctica); and two galleries for temporary exhibitions – including national touring shows, special highlights from the Art Gallery & Museum’s collections and family friendly exhibitions.

In celebration of the re-opening and to highlight its internationally renowned Arts & Crafts collection, the Art Gallery & Museum has created a new app, linking into other key Arts & Crafts locations in the Cotswolds - such as Court Barn, Kelmscott and several churches.
