At a time when love is in the air, research has revealed that deep down we are first and foremost a nation of home lovers at heart. An independent study carried out for national home builder Taylor Wimpey revealed that 75% of people in the South West still aspire to own their own home, with one in three ranking it more important than getting married, having children or building a career.

The UK is continuing its long standing love affair with home ownership, as almost half (46%) of those surveyed said they were prepared to scrimp and save for a deposit and one third (34%) would go without luxuries to afford mortgage payments.

“There really is no place like home for us Brits,” said Richard Goad, regional sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey. “Owning your own home isn’t just about practical benefits such as a secure long term investment and freedom from landlords. Studies have shown that homeowners are more satisfied with their lives and happier than those in rented accommodation and when you look at the many advantages of buying your own home, it’s not difficult to see why.

“A home is probably the most expensive investment you’ll ever make, and it’s important to make the right decision to ensure it’s a match made in heaven. Choosing a new home over a second hand property could save you thousands on DIY, maintenance and improvements, not to mention ongoing savings in areas such as fuel bills. Add to this the different financial incentives and assistance packages we can offer, and the benefits really do start to add up.

“With the housing market showing signs of recovery and house prices predicted to rise, it really is time for us all to fall in love with our homes again.”

Taylor Wimpey currently has a number of developments across Gloucestershire offering a wide range of homes and incentives designed to help purchasers make the move into a new home. The Government backed NewBuy scheme has seen an increase in the availability of 95% loan to value mortgages specifically for new build properties, meaning credit-worthy buyers may now only need to save a 5% deposit to secure their new home.

FirstBuy supports first time buyers who could not otherwise afford to buy because of the large deposits now required by mortgage lenders. It works through a joint loan of 20% from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and Taylor Wimpey, which means that eligible purchasers only need put down a 5% deposit and obtain a 75% loan-to-value mortgage. The loan is repayable at the end of the 25 year mortgage term or when the property is sold.

Richard added: “One of the many advantages of a new build property is that we can offer the incentives and flexibility which allow potential purchasers to buy their new home with much lower deposits. Government backed schemes such as NewBuy are really helping to get the housing market moving again and turning aspiring buyers’ dreams of home ownership into a reality.”

Taylor Wimpey’s Kings Copse development in Quedgeley offers a selection of three, four and five bedroom homes with prices starting from £154,995. At Hawthorn Rise in Cheltenham there are just two, three and four bedroom homes remaining priced from £229,995. In nearby Bishop’s Cleeve, the developer’s Dean Acre development offers a range of two, three, four and five bedroom homes priced from £154,995.
