New residential phase takes shape at Park Central, Birmingham

Construction is now well under way on the latest phase of Crest Nicholson’s Park Central development, the largest regeneration residential scheme in Birmingham City Centre.

This latest phase – named Central Plaza – will deliver 132 new one and two bedroom apartments in two residential buildings sitting over a 139 space undercroft car park and is due to be build complete in the autumn (2013).

The striking new buildings will be located at the heart of the development and represent a £15 million investment into Park Central. Crest Nicholson is delivering this central phase in partnership with Birmingham City Council and Crest’s development partner Optima Community Association.

Now in its 13th year, Park Central has transformed the former Lee Bank Middleway which was once a notorious hot spot for crime and poor social behaviour. Crest Nicholson acquired the site in 2000 and has since built in excess of 1,100 homes, including both townhouses and luxury apartments.

Pete Bayliss, senior project manager at Park Central said: “Central Plaza is the most exciting phase to be built at Park Central since we began construction over a decade ago. Being the central phase means that the buildings will boast a commanding position on the development and the planned reflective finish of the exterior, which will change from green to gold depending on the position of the sun, means it will really stand out as something quite spectacular on the Birmingham property market.

“More than 90 per cent of the concrete frame of Central Plaza has now been built, giving both visitors to the site and existing residents the chance to see how the central phase will develop. I personally started working at Park Central 10 years ago and it is incredible to think just how much the area has changed during that time, both architecturally and socially – it’s been an incredibly rewarding project to be part of.”

When complete the two Central Plaza buildings will link together the eight acres of landscaped parkland at Park Central, including the Moonlit Park, Wildflower Meadow and Sunset Park. The apartments have been designed so the majority benefit from advantageous views across the development and Birmingham city centre.

Central Plaza is due to be officially launched to the public next month at a special open day at Park Central.
