Sussex style in the country at Wickhurst Green

Countryside Properties has launched the first homes at Wickhurst Green, a major new development near Horsham in West Sussex. Located in a popular village environment, the new homes are surrounded by beautiful countryside and offer easy access to London which is only 30 miles away. Located just 20 miles from the south coast, and with the amenities of popular Horsham close by, Wickhurst Green is a perfect opportunity to enjoy country living with convenience.

Wickhurst Green has been designed as an extension to the ancient and established village of Broadbridge Heath and comprises traditionally designed homes but with stylish, contemporary interiors. The first phase of homes is called ‘Great Oaks’ and will offer a wide range of homes including two-bedroom cottages right up to five-bedroom country homes.

Countryside Properties has built a show village with four interior-designed show homes and a view home to show the range of properties available for sale. The new homes have been designed in a traditional style, within a layout that evokes the cluster of homes around a village green. They have traditional features such as porches, dormers, country cottage windows and doors, ornamental tile-hanging and white barge boards, yet contemporary features such as picture windows and stunning rooflights over garden rooms bring the designs bang up to date.

The design philosophy of Wickhurst Green as a whole is to be an extension to Broadbridge Heath. This philosophy works because the new homes will be supported by a range of new community and commercial facilities that are complementary to the overall needs and of economic benefit to the existing residents of the village. There will be a new primary school with playing fields, together with outdoor facilities, a neighbourhood village centre that proposes to include shops and the opportunity for a new doctors’ surgery.

Tony Travers, Managing Director of the New Homes and Communities division at Countryside Properties said: “Wickhurst Green is the result of many years’ experience in creating places where people genuinely enjoy living. We have a long-standing commitment to commissioning good design and Great Oaks at Wickhurst Green illustrates this in both the impressive new homes and the layout of the wider development as a village extension. It will provide a great place to live with its own style and character, yet will allow residents to feel part of the existing community of Broadbridge Heath.”

Outside public amenity space has been designed in from the start, with links to the surrounding countryside, allowing plenty of sports and recreation for new residents and the existing community. There will be local greens and landscaped spaces for informal recreation, two large neighbourhood play areas designed for a range of age groups, several formal sports pitches and courts with changing, parking and pavilion facilities. There may even be opportunities to ‘grow your own‘ with allotments provided for use by the new and existing residents of Broadbridge Heath. There will also be new and improved transport connections, including an extensive footpath and cycleway network.

Existing facilities in Broadbridge Heath already cover everyday needs with a village post office, convenience store and local pub. The village also already has its own leisure centre with gymnasium, floodlit football stadium, outdoor courts and athletics track. There is a nearby superstore located on the edge of the village and just two miles to the east is the town of Horsham with its wide range of retail facilities including its thriving Saturday and Thursday markets.

Regular bus routes already operate into Horsham from Broadbridge Heath and a new bus service and bus stops are proposed to allow Wickhurst Green residents to connect to Horsham town centre and railway station, which is within a mile of the development and offers regular services into London Bridge and London Victoria in under an hour. Gatwick Airport is just 16 miles to the north of Wickhurst Green and can be reached by car in under 30 minutes. Heathrow Airport is a little further at 40 miles away but still commutable within the hour.

Prices for homes at Great Oaks at Wickhurst Green start from £199,950 for a two-bedroom maisonette and rise to £525,000 for a five-bedroom detached house. The Great Oaks Marketing Suite and Show Village is open daily, 10am to 5pm. For further information, visit wickhurstgreen.com.
