When you think of Cornwall you probably think of beaches, coast walks, surfing and the Eden Project but perhaps food isn’t one of the things that instantly springs to mind. In fact, in recent years Cornwall has been undergoing something of a foodie revival and the county has been growing a reputation as being one of the new foodie havens of Britain.   Numerous fantastic restaurants and cafes and have been opening up and a whole range of great producers have been capturing the attention of visitors and locals alike. So, as the world begins to enjoy what great gastronomic delights Cornwall has to offer why not get down there and see for yourself?

In this guest post Jill Landeryou from Latitude 50 in considers how Cornwall is producing some very fine food indeed – from beer, to cheese, meat, ice cream and even tea!  Take a look at a few of her favourites to see what is on offer in the new foodie haven of Britain:

Cornish Orchards

Based in a picturesque spot in Duloe, near Cornwall’s south coast, Cornish Orchards produce award winning ciders and juices.  Using traditional methods and wonderful homegrown apples the company produce a wide range of tasty products. A visit to their Cider Shop is a treat for all fans of the appley-stuff, as you can taste the various brews and learn about the making process. Of course, you can also take some home and explore the orchards too.

Deli Farm Charcuterie

If you enjoy cured meats the Deli Farm Charcuterie will be your heaven. Between the rugged north coast and the romantic Bodmin moor, the farm has been producing delicious artisan cured meats since 2006. All of their meat is from the West Country and their pigs are even fed grain that is produced on their farm. From salami, to Duck Prosciutto and Wild Venison, Deli Farm is the place to pick up some of the finest cured meats being produced in the country today.  Sadly you can’t visit the farm just yet- although if you’re in the area they’re happy for you to email an order and swing by to pick it up.

Roskilly’s Ice Cream

This gorgeous working farm, based near Cornwall’s stunning south coast, is a treat for all who visit. Kids will love seeing the animals and adults will have a great time shopping in the farm shop and generally enjoying the atmosphere. The whole family though, will love sampling Roskilly’s most famous product - delicious Cornish Ice Cream, which comes in a whole range of flavours.  We recommend the Classic Clotted Cream Vanilla and the delectable exotic Wild Cherry and Chocolate.

St Austell Brewery

St Austell Brewery has been producing real ale in Cornwall since 1851 and brewing some of the very best beer in the county. Their cask ales Tribute, Proper Job ad Smugglers have all won countless awards and can be found lining the bars and fuelling friendly conversation in pubs around the county. If you are a real enthusiast though you can visit the brewery too – to take part in a fascinating and informative tour, take a look at their website for further details.

Tregothnan Tea

It may come as a surprise to some but due to the warm climate in Cornwall (since the year 2000) the Tregothnan Estate have been perfecting their very own home-grown brew of English Tea! Today they have a whole a whole range of teas available, which are all grown here on UK turf. The teas come in gorgeous packaging and taste just as good as they look. We highly recommend a visit to the estate, which has belonged to the same family since 1335 - by arrangement you can have a guided tour and see this impressive estate at work.

Cornwall really does have so much to offer in terms of delicious foods – these are just a handful of the impressive food producers working in the county today. So if you like food, why not get down there and taste some of these delights, and others, for yourself?
