London hoteliers hit the back of the net with the Champions League Final

10th April 2013 Print

London’s hoteliers are scoring a hat-trick with increased occupancy, increased average daily rate and a rise in both group and transient bookings as the world’s most celebrated tournament in club football, the Champions League, brings its final to Wembley Stadium (25 May 2013).

Forward-looking data from TravelClick, the leading hotel market intelligence provider, shows that around half of rooms are filled for both the nights before and of the final (49.8% and 53.1% respectively). Hoteliers are reaping the benefits of increased demand as the average daily rate shows a rise of 29.4% on the same weekend in 2012.

Although the two teams that will battle to be crowned ‘Champions of Europe’ are yet to be decided, with no English clubs remaining in this year’s tournament, inbound tourism is guaranteed. Both transient and group bookings are strong, transient bookings are currently up 14.8% year-on-year, with group bookings showing an increase of 9.1%.

Info is based on data pulled on 12 March 2013, from 88 London hotels with a combined capacity of 18,656.
