Morris Homes has teamed up with an enterprising arts partnership to unveil a new sculpture at its Telford development that pays homage to the area’s industrial heritage.

Midlands-based Planet Art was commissioned to design and create a cast iron sculpture to link the entrance of the Granville Country Park, a former mining site, with Morris’ Regents Crescent development in Muxton.

Artists Ron Thompson and Julie Edwards designed and made the piece to showcase the region’s strong industrial legacy whilst also capturing the wildlife that reclaimed the land when the last deep mine closed in the park.

Julie Edwards, partner of Planet Art, said: “We carved the sculpture from locally-sourced wood and then cast it in iron to celebrate the techniques that were familiar in Telford during the industrial revolution.

“We wanted the art to reflect the history of the area and its transition into a wildlife sanctuary, and we are thrilled with the finished result.”

Cindy Cade, regional sales director at Morris, said: “We wanted to provide residents with a lasting piece of art that reflects both the old and the new traditions that makes Telford such an exciting place to live, and we think the new sculpture does just that.”

Morris Homes’ Regents Crescent site on Marshbrook Way has a mix of two, three and four-bedroom available, with prices starting from just £134,750.

For more information on the properties available at Regents Crescent visit the sales office at Marshbrook Way, Muxton, Telford, TF2 8SY (open daily 10.30am – 5.30pm), or visit morrishomes.co.uk.
